Dannsairean An Eilein Sgitheanaich is a Highland Dancing Group based on the Isle of Skye. Starting out with a handful of dancers, DAES has gone from strength to strength with the Group established on a more formal basis in 2009. Under the guidance of native girl Karen Campbell, the Group continues to enjoy great success. There are now 75 dancers from all over Skye enrolled, ranging in age from 4 years to 21 with many of the dancers regularly and successfully competing all over Scotland.
Now married with 2 lovely Highland Dancers of her own, Karen regularly competed nationally and worldwide from a very early age. She is now passing that wealth of knowledge and experience onto her extended DAES family. Our Highland dancers frequently perform to visitors from all over the world who are on holiday to Scotland and the islands. They had a regular spot entertaining at an American 'Disney Tour' held at one prestigious local hotel. In 2014 a number of the girls enjoyed a fantastic trip to Disneyland Paris for the International Gathering of Scottish Highland Dancing. Since the. The girls have enjoyed many local and national successes at competitions which are often combined with class trips to these events. Last year we hosted three local competitions, for the local Mod, the Isle of Skye Highland Games and our very own 10th Anniversary competition, which coincided with Karen’s 40th Birthday. It was really a big year for events for our girls. This year we will be hosting the three competitions again and next year there are also plans afoot to travel to The New York City Tartan Week in 2021, so it will be another busy year fundraising to support the trip in 2021.
